Friends and Christmas-lovers all over the UK.
Today would normally mark an annual Christmas tradition. Some would say that December 1st is the beginning of Christmas, some might think that it’s when the Christmas lights go on in your local town centre, but no…
The beginning of Christmas for the past decade has been when Channel 4 show Will Ferrel’s Elf on the first Sunday afternoon in December. This year however, we’ve had this Christmas tradition taken away from us as Sky Movies have bought the rights to show the film - see here for more details: http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/tvandradioblog/2013/nov/19/christmas-elf-sky-movies-channel-4
What was great about this tradition was the collective Christmas spirit in bringing the internet together to all tweet quotes from the film in all-caps at the same time. As not everyone has Sky Movies (including us), we think this is a distinctly Scroogey move by the broadcasters who are definitely going on the naughty list this year.
Therefore we are encouraging you all to join us at 4pm today in a mass Elfathon. We will be putting in the DVD just before 16:00 GMT this afternoon and pressing play at exactly 4pm. Join us in watching the film from start to finish as one nation, just as we would have done if the film was still being shown on our beloved Channel 4.
Help us to spread the word by re-posting this or re-tweeting info from my sister’s Twitter account - @zietrichez with the hashtag #ELFATHON
So don’t be a cotton-headed ninnymoggins, sit down with your spaghetti & maple syrup and join us at four. It’ll be good for your ‘elf.
Not now arctic puffin!
